
Anthony David Gonzalez was born on February 27, 1976 in Torrance, California. He grew up in southern California and was a student at Huntington Beach High School, where he was an outstanding athlete on both the basketball and football teams. Gonzalez was a star in these sports at the University of California, Berkeley. He played with the football team in the 1996 Aloha Bowl. Here, Gonzalez set the school record for bowl games with nine receptions. Gonzalez also led the basketball team to Sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament a few months later. After graduating from highschool, he entered the 1997 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Gonzalez as the 13th overall selection. Gonzalez was a player for the Chiefs between 1997 and 2008. The Chiefs dealt Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons. Starting in Gonzalez's second year in the NFL the team never managed to catch less than 59 passes in one season.
